Senior Internal Audit Business Partner, Bank of New Zealand

The regulatory environment is evolving and industry disruption is on the increase, as a result the depth and breadth of assurance the Bank requires from our Internal Audit function is increasing. The new role of Senior Audit Business Partner has been created to support the Head of Internal Audit in transforming the function to meet the changing needs of the business.
This is a leadership role where you will represent the Audit function and provide insight and recommendations to Executive Team members, Leadership Teams and key governance Committees, together with supporting the Head of Audit in developing the Internal Audit Team "brand".
As well as leading and developing your own team, ensuring the team are focussing their time on the areas which will deliver the most value, you’ll also have responsibility for identifying areas of key risk. You’ll also provide thought leadership to the team and wider business on risk and control. You'll report to the Head of Internal Audit and be based at our Queen Street office in Auckland, New Zealand.
Key accountabilities include:
- Provide a "helicopter view" on business priorities and emerging risks to the wider audit team
- Lead the provision of insights and assurance to key stakeholders
- Oversee the delivery of the internal audit plan and continuous improvement of the function
- Proactively identify systemic issues and provide the business with recommendations and support to resolve these at a strategic level
- Provide structured support and leadership to Senior Audit Managers and Managers with a focus on training and development
- Be a role model for the team, fostering an environment where they can be business partners providing consultative advice to the business.
What we need from you:
You're someone who views audit as an opportunity to help our external customers and business leaders "be good with money". Providing assurance around regulatory compliance is important, but our function is also about adding a customer focused and commercial lens to our work. You'll be someone who can see the big picture, providing pragmatic and practical recommendations to the business.
You'll be an experienced people leader with either experience in a Big 4 firm at Director or Senior Manager level, or with Leadership Team level experience within a large organisation. Ideally you'll have experience working in or with financial services in either audit or risk. You'll be an excellent communicator with strong negotiation and influencing skills.
You'll have demonstrable experience of working with senior management across a variety of business functions with a track record of outstanding customer service. You'll be an expert problem solver who loves a challenge. You'll be passionate about continuous improvement with a strong focus on developing and mentoring your team.
